Adjust Your Camera’s Position

Position your camera as close to eye-level as you can manage, this may involve stacking books under your laptop or other creative solutions. If you’ll be referring to notes or a script, ensure this screen is as close to the camera as possible to maintain your eye line.

Frame Yourself

Open your camera app - how does the scene look?

  • Frame yourself so the shot starts just above your head, and ends around the middle of your chest (below your armpits).

  • Make sure you are centered left to right.

  • Check your background to see if anything needs to be cleaned up or moved around.

Check Your Lighting

The key to good webcam lighting is lots of light shining on your face, and not too much light coming from behind you (backlighting).

  • If it’s during the day, place yourself facing a window, to take advantage of the natural light.

  • You can also try placing a lamp beside or behind your camera.

  • Check your camera app and adjust until you like what you see.
