What Value Will Your Podcast Provide?

Excerpt from: Podcasting at Work: 25 Questions to Ask Before Starting

People listen to podcasts for many reasons - but they need at least one!

What’s going to make listeners feel good about spending time with your show, and what’s going to get them excited to listen to the next episode? How would you answer the question “why should I care?” if someone asks?

Here are a few ways you can provide value to your audience, and keep them coming back for more:

  • Learning & Professional Development: Teaching something useful that your audience can use professionally or personally.

  • Enjoyment: Making the audience smile or laugh.

  • Connection: Helping the audience feel connected to the hosts, their organization, their community, or a cause.

  • Feeling Like an “Insider”: Giving the audience an edge and making them feel like they’re the first to know or aren’t being left out of critical information.

  • “Share-Worthy” Content: Providing your audience with stories, facts, or insights that just need to be shared, in conversation or on social media.

Keeping your audience avatars (see previous tip) and the value you’re providing in mind at every stage of the podcasting process will help guarantee the final product hits the right mark.

Remember, your audience has over a million unique shows to choose from - make sure they have a good reason to choose yours.
